The Need
Many children who reside in inner-city communities as a whole are lost, devalued and searching for purpose. They’re institutionalized to the world’s ways of thinking, and majority of them have adopted the lifestyle principles from the caricatures they view on television. A stronger education system is needed but more importantly, our today’s youth are desperately in need of moral and spiritual life skill principles that focus on transforming the heart. With that approach the participants will clearly see and understand that their hearts are the battlefield where the war between what is right and wrong are in constant conflict. The problem with today’s youth is not a lack of maturity, experience, or understanding. Those will exacerbate the problem. But the true issue is the immorality in their hearts. Another major setback for many of our youth is that they are being raised in single parent households due to absentee parents. And because of that they find it difficult to avoid a life of crime due to them being raised in an environment that value and reverence the fantasy lifestyle of entertainers and celebrities. This makes their process towards adult hood a struggle because (1) they are not equipped with the proper principles to guide them and help set their life in decent order and (2) do not have a visible example of someone who will give them confidence to protect and discipline their hearts from easily being attracted to money, power, drugs, gangs and sex. Our young males have a distorted perspective of how to treat a women because they’ve never experienced or seen a wholesome, respectful interaction between a husband and wife who are fully devoted to their roles in their marriage. Additionally, many inner-city teenage young men are dying at a young age due to violence or stuck fighting their way out of the prison system while watching their childhood vanish before their eyes. Many of them are only men in age, but lack emotional and physical maturity. This curse has been perpetuated from generation to generation, and the perspective of many inner city young men is, you are a man when you reach the “legal” age limit. The lack of holistic maturity, which is reflected in ones’ spiritual, mental and social development is missing in many Chicago inner city communities. Moreover, many inner city young women are being raised by depictions on television and music of popular culture. These influences have given young women very false perceptions of the definition of a real woman. Today, there are so many misguided kids raising our next generation out of wedlock without the proper principles to guide and provide for their children which creates dysfunctional households. television has created this narrative and images that have depicted young women with the misunderstanding that worldly success is simply based upon their willingness to increase their sex appeal, rather than increasing their appetite to discovery their true identity. Young men and women today view sexual relationships very casually, much of which is depicted and represented to them through social media and television. Many of them have fallen prey to this misconception and have created numerous of children and are currently raising them in destructive environments. Young women are so infatuated by what a man possess materially, that they never learn the value of true intimacy from a man. this perpetuate the cycle of broken relationships, which produces unstable people. Many young women have only learned to value a man for what type of automobile he drives, instead of what “drives” the man, the latter being a barometer of a true man. Our youth have been purposely manipulated by their culture and society. But more importantly, the education system that society praises is not designed to teach our today’s youth what they need to know to overcome the immorality in their hearts. Unfortunately they spend their whole childhood experiencing sub-standard education that caters to restricted worldly success and residing in government assistant living communities that fosters poverty. This cultivates an animalistic behavior in regards to their approach towards wealth, resulting to them either hating or overly reverencing those who are financially stable. This ignites a flaming desire in them to do what ever it take to satisfy their uncontrollable greed. This is where the vision for purpose foundation for youth comes to serve our communities!!! Our children are in a war internally and do not have the tools nor the proper training to defend themselves from worldly temptation and the immorality in their own hearts. We are raising a generation of trouble, angry, and bitter children who must not be abandon but guided by moral and spiritual truth or they will fall prey to worldly disillusion.
